Have you noticed a large number of senior communities being built in your city or town? It feels like every time one is completed, another one is being constructed. Given the aging population, it appears there will be no slowing down of the construction of these large senior living communities.
Is there demand for the amount of senior living communities that they are building? According to statistics, yes. In a 2016 publication by the Population Reference Bureau, the number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double from the 46 million in 2016 to over 98 million by 2060! That would bring the 65 and older age group’s share of the total population to nearly 24% compared to the 15% in 2016.
Given that by 2060 almost 1/4th of the United States population will be 65 or older, the housing market will be one of the greater markets effected. By the age of 65, even in good health, maintaining a large home can become exhausting and cumbersome. With no kids living at home, it may be more practical for a senior, to sell their home and live in a community. Along with the benefits of less house to maintain, they wont need to maintain the yard, make household repairs, and if you live up north you wont need to shovel the driveway.
These communities may be pricey but you will be getting a lot out of them. Gone are the days of the stereotypical “senior home”. The homes being built today are very modern and appealing to the eye. Besides the appearance of the communities, the staff are always very well trained, and most of them have in house chefs preparing all of your meals with fresh and healthier ingredients.
